Effective date and last updated: August 9, 2026
This privacy policy applies to the Android mobile application AR Ruler: 3D Tape Measure (identified by package name com.umbrabyte.ar.ruler.tape.measure), developed and published by Umbrabyte Apps. It complements the general Umbrabyte Privacy Policy and serves as the official privacy policy linked within the app and its Google Play Store listing.
Plain language summary: All camera frame analysis, 3D point cloud tracking, spatial distance calculations, saved measurements, and PDF project reports are processed and stored strictly locally on your device. Umbrabyte operates no cloud servers to host or collect your measurements, requires no user account or registration, includes zero advertisements, and never sells or rents your personal data. Data only leaves your device when you explicitly choose to share or export files, when Google Play processes an optional PRO purchase, or when contacting direct support.
This summary does not replace the detailed terms set forth below.
1. Scope and key facts
AR Ruler: 3D Tape Measure is an advanced 3D spatial measurement utility powered by Google ARCore. It allows you to measure linear distances, height, angles, 3D paths, room areas, perimeters, and volumes using your device’s camera.
- No account or registration required: The application does not ask you to create a user account, profile, or provide personal credentials.
- 100% On-Device / Local Processing: Camera frame motion tracking, plane detection, 3D coordinate projection, and unit calculations run entirely on your device processor. Camera feeds are analyzed in temporary memory and never recorded, stored, or transmitted to any server.
- No Umbrabyte measurement servers: Umbrabyte does not own or operate servers where your spatial measurements, room dimensions, or exported files are uploaded.
- Zero ads or cross-app tracking: The application contains no advertising networks or tracking SDKs. The app manifest explicitly strips (
tools:node="remove") permissions tied to advertising identifiers (AD_IDandAdServices). - No data sales: Umbrabyte does not sell, rent, or trade user personal information under any circumstances.
- No automated profiling: We do not perform user profiling or automated decision-making.
- Platform integration: Optional PRO purchases (Monthly, Yearly, Lifetime) are handled via the official Google Play Billing API. In-App Update checks and optional store review prompts use official Google Play APIs.
2. Data Controller
The developer and data controller for any data received directly by Umbrabyte (such as customer support correspondence) is:

- Tax ID (NIF): 20468489F
- D-U-N-S® Number: 374071851
- Privacy & Support Contact: support@umbrabyte.app
Platform services such as Google Play Store act as separate independent controllers for data processed under their own privacy policies.
3. Data processed by the application
3.1 Information stored and processed on device
The app processes the following information solely within the private local storage of the app or system locations selected by you:
| Data Category | Information Examples | Storage Location |
|---|---|---|
| 3D Spatial coordinates | Real-time camera feature points, reticle anchors, and 3D vectors (Vector3) |
Kept in temporary device memory during the active camera measurement session; discarded when session ends |
| Saved measurements & project archive | Tool type, measured values (length, area, volume, angle), timestamps, and optional project names | Private local Room database (ArRulerDatabase) on device |
| App preferences & settings | Unit system (Metric/Imperial), haptic feedback, onboarding status, and theme preferences | Private local preferences (DataStore) on device |
| Daily usage quota tracking | Counters managing free daily saved measurements and report exports | Private local preferences (DataStore) on device |
| Purchase status & PRO entitlement | Cached local PRO entitlement status (ProEntitlement) |
Private local preferences (DataStore) on device |
3.2 Permissions & device access
Android permissions are requested transparently only when initiating a feature requiring them:
| Permission / Capability | Purpose & Usage | Necessity |
|---|---|---|
Camera (android.permission.CAMERA) |
Required solely to run Google ARCore motion tracking and display the camera feed for 3D measurement | Required for AR measurement screens |
Billing (com.android.vending.BILLING) |
Connects to Google Play Billing API for optional PRO purchases | Used when browsing or acquiring paid options |
Internet & Network (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) |
Required by Google Play Billing (validating purchases) and Google Play Core (checking app update availability) | Used in background by platform components |
The application does NOT request location, contacts list, call logs, SMS, microphone, health data, advertising ID (GAID), unselected photo gallery files, or biometric authentication data.
3.3 User-initiated sharing and export
When saving a project report as a PDF or sharing an annotated measurement photo, file transfer occurs through standard Android system interfaces (Intent and FileProvider). The destination and recipients are chosen explicitly by you.
3.4 Data Umbrabyte does NOT receive
During standard use of AR Ruler, Umbrabyte does not receive or store on servers:
- Camera video streams or photo frames.
- 3D spatial points, room dimensions, or measurement values.
- File names, paths, or local project archives.
- Geographic location traces or credit card details.
4. External services & data communications
4.1 Google ARCore (On-Device Spatial Tracking)
Spatial tracking uses Google ARCore (com.google.ar.core), declared as AR Optional in the manifest. Camera feature points and surface plane outlines are processed locally on your device GPU/CPU to compute distances. No camera images or 3D point clouds are uploaded to Google or Umbrabyte servers.
4.2 Distribution and payments via Google Play Billing
Subscriptions and lifetime access are processed via official Google Play Billing. Google processes your Google Account, payment card/bank details, and billing info. Umbrabyte never receives or stores payment card credentials.
4.3 Update checks via Google Play Core
The app uses official Google Play Core APIs to check if Google Play has published a newer version and offer updates directly within Play’s interface.
5. Purposes and legal bases
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), processing operations rely on:
| Activity / Feature | Purpose | Legal Basis |
|---|---|---|
| 3D AR measurement & local calculations | Provide requested app functionality | Contract performance (Art. 6.1.b GDPR) |
| Camera access for ARCore | Allow real-time camera tracking | Explicit user consent via permission prompt (Art. 6.1.a GDPR) |
| PRO purchases & license management | Fulfill orders & legal accounting | Contract performance (Art. 6.1.b) & Legal compliance (Art. 6.1.c GDPR) |
| Update checks & app security | Keep app secure and updated | Legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f GDPR) |
6. Data retention, deletion & management
| Data Type | Retention Period | Deletion Method |
|---|---|---|
| Saved measurements & local preferences | As long as app is installed or until manually cleared | Clear app storage under Android Settings or uninstall app |
| Local PRO purchase status | Duration of app installation; restorable via Google Play | Automatically synced with Google Play account |
| Transaction records in Play Console | Statutory tax and accounting retention periods | Retained by Google and Umbrabyte for legal compliance |
| Support email correspondence | Up to 3 years max to resolve inquiries | Periodic inbox deletion |
7. Data security
App data is isolated within Android’s private app sandbox. 3D spatial coordinate calculations occur in ephemeral memory. Network communication for Play Billing and Play Core update checks strictly uses encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.
8. Your rights worldwide
You hold privacy rights including access, correction, deletion, and objection under GDPR (EEA/Spain), UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA (California/US), LGPD (Brazil), PIPEDA (Canada), and Privacy Act (Australia). Contact support@umbrabyte.app to submit requests.
9. Children’s privacy
AR Ruler is a measurement tool intended for general adult and professional use. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or local statutory age).
