Effective date and last updated: October 25, 2026
This privacy policy applies to the Android application FocusBlocker: App Blocker (package name com.umbrabyte.focusblocker), developed and published by Umbrabyte Apps. It complements the general Umbrabyte Privacy Policy and is the privacy statement for the app and its Google Play listing.
Plain language summary: FocusBlocker blocks the apps and websites you choose, on the schedules and focus sessions you set. Everything it needs (your block lists, schedules, statistics and settings) stays on your phone. The app does not declare the
android.permission.INTERNETpermission, so it cannot send your data anywhere by itself. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no Umbrabyte server. Data only leaves the device when the Google Play Store app processes the optional one-time purchase of FocusBlocker PRO (focusblocker_pro_lifetime) or checks for an app update.
This summary does not replace the detailed terms below.
1. Scope and key facts
- Local by design: block lists, schedules, focus sessions, statistics and preferences are stored only in the app’s private storage on your device.
- No internet permission: the manifest removes
INTERNETandACCESS_NETWORK_STATE. FocusBlocker has no network code and talks to no server of its own. - No account: you can use every feature without giving a name, email address or phone number.
- No ads, no trackers: the app contains no advertising SDK, no analytics or attribution SDK and does not use the Google Advertising ID.
- No sale of data: Umbrabyte does not sell, rent or share personal data.
- Free plan without a trial: blocking unlimited apps and websites is free. The free plan allows up to 2 active schedules at a time and 3 focus sessions per day.
- One-time purchase: FocusBlocker PRO (
focusblocker_pro_lifetime) is a single lifetime purchase with no subscription and no recurring charges. It unlocks strict mode, unlimited schedules, unlimited focus sessions and long-term trend statistics.

3. Data and permissions
3.1 Information stored on your device
| Data category | Contents | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Shield and block lists | Shield on/off and pause, blocked apps (package names), blocked websites (domains) | Private app storage (DataStore) |
| Schedules and focus sessions | Profiles, days and hours, current session, session history and reminders | Private app storage (DataStore) |
| Strict mode seal | Strict mode state and a hash of your 4-digit PIN (the PIN itself is not stored) | Private app storage (DataStore), excluded from backups and device transfers |
| Statistics | Daily screen time per app (kept for 90 days), blocks per app and day, focus streak, the productivity category you assign to each app | Private app storage (DataStore) |
| Preferences and quota | Theme, onboarding status, daily free-session counter and reset date | Private app storage (DataStore) |
| PRO entitlement | Whether the lifetime purchase is active | Private app storage, restored from Google Play |
This data is deleted when you clear the app’s data in Android Settings or uninstall the app. Automatic cloud backup is disabled (android:allowBackup="false"), and the strict mode seal is excluded from any backup or device-to-device transfer.
3.2 Android permissions
| Permission | Why FocusBlocker needs it |
|---|---|
Accessibility service (BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE) |
Detects which app comes to the foreground so the shield can block it. In supported browsers it reads only the address bar to compare the domain with your blocked websites. It does not read other screen content, what you type or your messages, and nothing is sent anywhere. |
Usage access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) |
Reads the screen time Android already records, to show your Day and Week statistics on the device. |
Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) |
Shows the block screen on top of a blocked app. |
Foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE) |
Keeps the shield running, with a persistent notification. |
Exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM) and start at boot (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) |
Starts and ends schedules on time and re-arms them after a reboot, an update or a time change. |
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) |
Reminders before a profile starts, when it ends and when a break is over. |
Billing (com.android.vending.BILLING) |
Lets Google Play process and restore the optional PRO purchase. |
Every permission can be reviewed in the app’s permission panel and revoked at any time in Android Settings; the related feature then stops working. FocusBlocker does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, files, phone, SMS or the Advertising ID (AD_ID).
3.3 Data Umbrabyte does not receive
Umbrabyte never receives your block lists, websites, schedules, screen time, PIN, device identifiers, IP address or payment details.
4. External services
4.1 No Umbrabyte servers
Umbrabyte operates no server, cloud database or API for FocusBlocker. All processing happens on your device.
4.2 Google Play Billing
The optional purchase of FocusBlocker PRO (focusblocker_pro_lifetime) is processed by Google Play Billing (Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited) through the Google Play Store app. Google handles the payment method, billing address, currency and taxes; Umbrabyte only receives the order information Google Play provides to developers and never sees card details. See the Google Privacy Policy.
4.3 Google Play in-app updates
The app uses the Google Play in-app update library to check whether a newer version is available. The check is carried out by the Google Play Store app under Google’s own terms.
5. Purposes and legal bases
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD):
| Activity | Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Blocking apps and websites, schedules and focus sessions on the device | Provide the features you request | Performance of a contract (Art. 6.1.b) |
| Accessibility service and usage access | Detect the foreground app and show screen time statistics | Your consent when you grant each permission (Art. 6.1.a) |
| PRO purchase and restore | Deliver the lifetime licence and keep accounting records | Performance of a contract (Art. 6.1.b) and legal obligation (Art. 6.1.c) |
| In-app update checks | Keep the app secure and up to date | Legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f) |
| Support correspondence | Answer the messages you send us | Performance of a contract (Art. 6.1.b) and legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f) |
6. Retention and deletion
| Data | Retention | How to delete |
|---|---|---|
| Block lists, schedules, sessions and preferences | While the app is installed | Clear app data or uninstall the app |
| Daily screen time history | 90 days on the device, then discarded | Clear app data or uninstall the app |
| PRO entitlement | While installed; restorable through Google Play | Managed by your Google account |
| Google Play transaction records | Statutory tax and accounting periods | Managed by Google |
| Support emails | Up to 3 years after the last message | Deleted in routine inbox clean-ups |
7. Security
- Sandbox: all data lives in the app’s private storage, which other apps cannot read.
- No cloud backup: automatic backup is disabled and the strict mode seal is excluded from device-to-device transfers.
- PIN protection: only a hash of the strict mode PIN is stored.
- Encryption: the strict mode seal is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM using a key kept in the Android Keystore.
- Hardened builds: release builds are optimised and obfuscated with R8.
